The SAT May Test every year is really the choice sitting for international takers. That’s what I advocated strongly to the participants throughout the recently completed SAT Prep Workshop Series by AUP (American University Program) at INTI Penang and the two main reasons for my take are:
First, the Student QAS (Question-and-Answer Service) is offered only once a year at the May sitting outside of Canada & US by College Board. Second, for first-timers, May is ideal in terms of timing, SAT-wise.
I’m not sure why the QAS is not offered more often worldwide (3 times yearly in Canada & US). For only an additional $18, this test-disclosure service is awesome. It includes a copy of the booklet of your test (the version that was used at your sitting but not allowed to be removed). In addition, it is accompanied by a table of the correct answers and other scoring information: type and difficulty level of the questions, your answers (correct, incorrect or omitted). All this allows you to pinpoint where you need work for your future cracks at the SAT.
In terms of scheduling, May is ideal because by the time the QAS package is received in the mail, the next available test would be in October, affording an ample break, sort of an enforced one. This is a key factor because in their zealousness, folks have the propensity to shortchange themselves in the prep for their next attempts. And next attempts they must make, but I’ll leave that topic for another blog on another day.
There are 2 appointed SAT Test Centres in Penang: Dalat International School, at Tanjong Bungah and KDU Penang at 32, Jalan Anson. For this upcoming May SAT Penang folks must take it at the former, Dalat, which is my preferred venue between the two. The beachfront campus setting is as conducive as it gets for test taking. As usual, the test is scheduled on the first Saturday of the month, that’s May 3rd and the registration deadline is April 4. Register early – SAT test registration is on first-come-first-served.
